Dear Editor,
After reading Mr. Lionel Lowe’s critical report “EZjet is required to report all proposed cancelled flights ten days in advance; passengers must be fully refunded” (KN Mar 12), the conclusion I drew was the writer wants EZjet to close up shop. That will be bad for the traveling public as it inevitably would lead to less flights to Guyana from North America and the higher fares that we were accustomed to for years.
Prior to EZjet’s service, fares were astronomically high and the traveling public was complaining about poor service and abuses from the other carriers. We desperately needed at least one other carrier with the recent pull-out of so many – Universal, Travelspan, Constellation, North American, etc. Enter EZjet last December to fill a void giving us relatively low fares – some of the fare offerings were the lowest I had seen in years. And then came the criticisms from Lowe and KN-affiliated commentators apparently wanting the airline to close shop.
I hope EZjet’s owner, Mr. Sonny Ramdeo, does not pay heed to detractors and critics and pull out of Guyana. I hope his air charter is successful so he can stay in business. And I also hope he expands service to Guyana from Toronto and Miami.
I spoke with several Guyanese travel agents in New York on Monday and they are all cheering for Ramdeo. They want the man to succeed. They inform me bookings are being made thru September which means that EZjet is approved for travel way beyond June as Lowe claims.
I hope Lowe is wrong when he wrote: “I do not see any reason for Sonny to hang around for too long”. We need EZjet and other air services. Vishnu Bisram
