Berbice’s Bryton Murray and Georgetown’s Stefan Corlette topped the
Under-15 and the Under-18 Boys’ categories on Thursday when Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) held its trials at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
According to the association, trials are being held to make the final selections for players to continue training for the Cadet and Junior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships that is scheduled for April 3-9 in Cuba.
In a round-robin play-off among seven players in the U-15 Boys, Murray came out on top after he defeated Joseph Johnson 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 12-14 and 11-9, Shemar Britton 11-7, 4-11, 5-11, 11-7 and 11-9, Elishaba Johnson 9-11, 12-10, 11-8, 2-11 and 11-8, Joshua Lalbachan (Berbice) 11-8, 8-11, 11-6 and 11-2, Ryan Narine 5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 6-11 and 11-7 and Scott Garraway 9-11, 11-4, 11-6 and 11-4.
Second place went to Johnson after he defeated Britton 6-11, 11-6, 11-7 and 11-9, E. Johnson 6-11, 11-8, 11-5 and 11-6, Lalbachan 11-5, 11-7, 9-11 and 11-9, Narine11-9, 11-6 and11-6 and Garraway 11-1, 11-9, 8-11, 10-12 and 11-8.
Third place went to Britton as he defeated E. Johnson 11-5, 5-11, 6-11, 12-10 and 11-8, Lalbachan 11-9, 9-11, 11-13, 11-8 and 12-10, Narine 11-8, 11-8 and 11-6 and Garraway 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 8-11 and 11-8.
Fourth place went to E. Johnson after he defeated Lalbachan 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 9-11 and 11-8, Narine 11-7, 11-8 and 11-8 and Garraway 11-7, 11-0 and12-10. Lalbachan was fifth, Narine was sixth and Garraway was seventh.
In the U-18 round-robin play-off among five players, Corlette defeated Sachin Panday 5-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9 and 11-8, Sunil Logan 11-9, 11-8 and 11-5, Samuel Fraser 17-15, 12-10, 15-17 and 11-8 and David Duncan 11-9, 12-14, 10-12, 11-9 and 11-9. Panday was second, Logan was third, Fraser was fourth and Duncan was fifth.
