An 18 year-old man will spend the next two years in prison after he was caught red handed in a woman’s house.
The accused, Rondell Stoby, made his appearance at the Providence Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Leslie Sobers. It is alleged that on March 1st, he broke and entered the dwelling place of Samantha Scotland and stole a watch valued $1500 and a pair of silver earrings valued $200. To the charge Stoby pleaded guilty. When asked if he had anything to say and why he committed the act, Stoby grasped at the opportunity.
“Meh worship is de devil tek over meh”. The Magistrate then asked the accused what he told the devil and he responded, “I had to tell he that he is a liar”.
Meanwhile, Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels in presenting the facts to the court said that on the day in question the virtual complainant secured her house and went out to run some errands. Sometime later the police received an anonymous call and responded. Upon arrival at Scotland’s place, the police noticed several louver panes missing from a window at the southern side of the house. The police ranks then entered the house and caught the accused. When asked if he lived in the house, the man responded in the negative. The court was told that a search was carried out and the items were found in Stoby’s pocket. He was then arrested, told of the offence and charged.
Stoby begged the court to be lenient with him after saying that he had no one to assist him and to take care of him if he is incarcerated for a long time.
After listening to the matter, Magistrate Sobers sentenced Stoby to two years imprisonment.
