Chopped miner identified
The miner who was hacked to death at the Konawaruk Backdam on Monday during an alleged row with another man has been identified by the police as Troy Anthony Birkett, a 41-year- old of Lot 264 Bissessar Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown.
The man who is known as “Tall Man” was said to have been killed in his sleep. According to information received, Birkett had reportedly gone to a creek to have a bath when he and another man engaged in an argument. The suspect later attacked Birkett while he was sleep, chopping the man to death.
Kaieteur News understands that Birkett was allegedly chopped to the neck and other parts of his body. He was rushed to the Mahdia Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigations are ongoing.
