…niece in custody
A woman is currently in police custody assisting with investigations following the death of her uncle,
33-year-old Marlon Welcome.
According to reports, Welcome, who operates a mechanic shop at 192 ‘A’ Field Sophia died while being treated at the Woodlands Hospital. This publication was told that the man was rushed to the hospital after he was clubbed in his head with a blunt object.
According to the police, a door to the house was reportedly found open and several panes were missing from a louvre window at the back of the house.
One of the dead man’s relatives, Vernon Halley, told this publication that at the time of the incident only Welcome’s niece was with him. Welcome shared the house with his niece who is currently assisting with investigations.
Halley said that he received a telephone call from his ‘child-mother’, who is Welcome’s niece.
“She call and tell me that Marlon get a lash in he head and that they at the hospital.” Halley said that by the time he got to the hospital he was told that Welcome had died.
He said the dead man’s niece related to him that she and her uncle were awakened by the sound of the chain on the gate rattling.
“She say she wake up but stay in she bedroom until she hear she uncle screaming and when she go outside she see he lying on the floor”.
Halley said that by then neighbours realized that something was wrong and came over to render assistance. He said neighbours also related that they heard gunshots and they believed that Welcome was shot.
However, when they arrived at the hospital, they were told that the man was not shot.
“Them boys come over and help carry he to the hospital and they say he had a small hole to the back of he head.”
The matter was reported and Welcome’s niece was invited to the Turkeyen Police Station since she was the only other person in the house.
At the home, the dead man’s mother was too overcome with grief to talk. Many persons who had their vehicle at the man’s workshop were also at the house making enquiries about uplifting their vehicles. However they were advised that they will have to wait until the police conclude their investigation.
Some of the man’s close friends who had also gathered at the house speculated that the incident was clearly not a robbery since everything was untouched.
“This look like somebody got a problem with this man and just come fuh kill he.”
