DEAR EDITOR,
As a visiting Guyanese, I was amazed at the Christmas spirit displayed by the Immigration Officers at the Passport Office in Georgetown. Quietly, I was waiting on my turn to be called to receive my passport. Then, a Senior Immigration Officer approached us and asked if we can move forward to the vacant seats in the first three rows. Among those who moved forward, curiosity became evident. The gentleman to my right became a bit annoyed with what was transpiring. However, the singing of the three female Immigration Officers brought a smile to his face.
The jolliness continued when the Senior Immigration Officer asked everyone to look under their seat for a ticket. Those who were lucky enough to find a ticket were each given a decorated food basket. Gifts were also shared out to children. To everyone else which included myself, we were each treated to a slice of sponge cake and an ice cold Chubby. Despite the depressing weather that day, the Immigration Officers truly exemplified the Season of Giving. I would like to wish each and every one of them Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
