The seven cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) will from this Sunday (December 18) host several events for youths, the less fortunate and the elderly as part of their multi-million Christmas Charity Outreach Programme.
The teams involved are The Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19, Gizmos and Gadgets Under-21 and First Division and Metro Female Teams.
RHTY&SC Secretary/CEO, Hilbert Foster, stated that the team would start the weeklong programme with a Christmas Luncheon for 150 senior citizens at the Annex Restaurant on Sunday, while the other activities include a party for 300 children, sharing of 150 food hampers to less fortunate families, distribution of 1000 toys, 20 educational scholarships to less fortunate school children and a massive feeding of the poor.
The teams has already donated toys and goodies to twelve Church groups and NGO’s to assist them in hosting Christmas activities across Berbice; the Clubs will also be visiting Children Orphanages, Senior Citizens Homes and the New Amsterdam Children Ward to distribute toys and hampers.
They will also host a Christmas Television programme on DTV-8, while clothing and footwear would be distributed to 50 households in Rose Hall Town. Several major companies have come on board to support the seven teams with the donation of various items.
These companies include Ansa McAl Trading, Bounty Farm Ltd, Banks DIH Ltd, Bakewell, Gizmos and Gadgets, Scotia Bank, Guyana Beverage Company, Food for the Poor Guyana Inc. and DTV-8.
Foster disclosed that the club’s cricketers are dominating the games at all levels in Berbice and while the management is pleased with this, the club wants every one of its cricketers to understand the importance in making a positive difference in the lives of others.
The said teams in 2011 undertook a total of 60 Personal Development Programmes worth $10,000,000 to make a difference. These include feeding of the poor, educational scholarships, raising funds for sick children to undergo medial operations and donations of sports gear, footwear and clothing to schools and NGO’S.
