The Christmas Season is a time for sharing, and the football fraternity around this time really enjoys the benevolence that is being perpetuated at this time.
The Annual K & S Tournament as is usual is getting the dollars dolling in from the many big businesses. In an earlier letter I alluded to the fact that the tournament was watered down due to the GFA taking the GFF to court and the GFF debarring all those clubs associated or aligned to the GFA from taking part in the K & S.
Banks DIH, one time sponsor of K & S who was unceremoniously dumped, decided to collaborate with GFA and have a tournament for those unfortunate clubs which got caught up with the GFF/GFA fight. They have a 1st prize of $3Million and the games will be played simultaneously with the K & S. The Finals is slated for New Year’s Day.
Mr Editor, that is so absurd, insensitive, reckless and most of all stupid. And Mr Editor, you know what, after GFF debarred the G/town Clubs (with the exception of Pele and W/Tigers) from participating in the K & S tournament, it was revealed that the players could have represented any other club in the K & S tournament. Well, well, well Guyana’s Football is now seeing daylight, this one beat all.
How can you suspend a club but yet allow the players to represent another club. Is this a cake shop we running or is a multi-million dollar sport. Once a club is suspended, all associates of the club is suspended, simple, just like that, the players cannot play in the tournament. But some smart aleck say that they can play and I think a few played on the opening night.
GT&T bringing a circus on Friday to Guyana, well, we have another permanent circus here comprised of GFF and GFA Officials, you have the clowns (Executives), the magicians (Coaches) and the comedians (Referees).
Anyhow I will sit and see how these 2 tournaments play simultaneously. K & S at GCC and GFA/Banks at GFC same day same time, sounds like a soap opera at the Theatre Guild.
