APNU protest GECOM, Regional Administration in Berbice
About100 supporters of A Partnership for National Unity in Berbice on Thursday peacefully picketed the office of the Guyana Elections Commission in New Amsterdam and the Regional Administration.
They have vowed to continue doing so until their demands are met.
Their main bone of contention is that they need a statement by statement verification.
APNU is saying that the elections were not free and fair. They cited a number of discrepancies that occurred during the election and they want these addressed including the manipulation of votes, missing statements of poll, multiple voting, giving legitimate voters tendered ballots to vote on Election Day and tyrannical tactics by PPPC supporters and candidates on Election Day.
APNU has also complained that the integrity of some ballot boxes has been called into question, particularly in the wake of the discovery of a number of broken ballot-box seals.
The PPPC won 32 seats in the 65-seat National Assembly with 48.6 percent; APNU with 26 seats and 40.8 percent and the Alliance of Change (AFC) got seven seats with 10.3 percent.
The protesters plan to continue the picketing exercise until their demands are met. Some of the placards read ‘APNU has won,’ ‘NO weapon formed against APNU will prosper,’ ‘We need justice,’ ‘Rigging of Elections must stop,’ and people of Guyana have voted APNU.
