A Guyana Defence Force rank, Elton Alfred, who was performing security duties at Air Corps, Timehri was shot on Friday shortly before midnight.
According to a press statement from the Guyana Defence Force the rank was shot around 23:40 hours.
The army stated that the circumstances are being investigated. At the same time the soldier is being treated for a gunshot wound to his left leg. No further details were available by the army.
However, this publication has been told that the rank related to his superiors that he was responding to a noise which was coming from the back of the compound when he claimed that he was shot. The rank claimed that he saw two men in the compound.
Investigations are ongoing.
