Fire destroys Cane Grove Home
A house that was home to three people went up in flames after firemen were unable to
The property burnt to rubble
extinguish a raging fire of an unknown origin at a Cane Grove Estate, East Coast Demerara residence, last Tuesday.
Routie Outar, the owner of the home, said that she had visited her sister’s house less than a mile away when a policeman called to inform her that her home was on fire. Fortunately no one was at home at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses said that they noticed the fire around 3:00pm and subsequently informed an officer from the nearby Police Station who immediately contacted the Fire Service.
Persons in the area noted that the Fire Service responded promptly but was unable to save the home of Routie Outar, her husband Mohamed Saddick and her son, Sewchand Singh, but managed to save the neighbouring houses.
“When you count all the money me paid for carpentry and material, plus all me furniture it add up to about $1M” said Outar.
The woman in tears added that she had recently constructed the house, using ever dime belonging to her and her husband.
Not knowing what their next move will be, the family is calling on the government for some assistance.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur News understands that Outar’s sister has offered to let them stay at her home until they can “get back on their feet”.
Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
