Former Registrar of the High Court, Sita Ramlal who had forgery charges dismissed against her last month has been appointed Solicitor General. Ramlal’s appointment was effective from November 1.
Kaieteur News understands that Ramlal took up the position yesterday. The Solicitor General deals with the drafting of the country’s laws.
Sita Ramlal
Kaieteur News was unable yesterday to get a comment from the Attorney General’s Chambers.
Prior to this appointment, Ms Ramlal was the Supreme Court Registrar. She was forced to demit this office when she was charged with fraud.
Magistrate Fazil Azeez dismissed all of the charges against her for want of prosecution.
The matter languished in the courts for two years.
Only in Guyana person who were associated with Fraud, Theft, Mismangagement can still be appointed as Office bearers regardless.I am sure there are other persons who qualified for this positon but were overlooked. Any other country her career would have been over!

‘For want of a prossecution’ should someone at Legal Affairs, the Police Prosecution Division, or the director of Public Prosecution be anserwable here.
There are 2 big questions here (a) if there was in sufficient evidence why charger her (or them). (b) if there was sufficient evidence then what happened.
What happen to accountability?

In Guyana unlike Suriname among other places, an accused is PRESUMED INNOCENT until proven other-wise. At this accused trial, no evidence was offered and the presiding Magistrate had no other recourse but to dismiss the charges. Now people may have other views and enjoy casting aspirations on the proven innocent. That is OK, this is Guyana all the way. However, respect and trust must be retained by the legal system if Guyanese are to live under the “rule of Law”. What is good for one must be good for all. She was not convicted, she is innocent. Talk is cheap.

Look at that! Some persons really get away with a lot of sculldugery in this place. One with think her credibility would have been tarnished.

Miss Ramlal sold her soul to part of this corrupt government, but the United States was looking on and revoked her Visa and hopefully when the new government takes office she will be fired.

Congratulation to you Ms. Ramlall. You deserve this appointment and I know that you are competent to function in this capacity. Anyone in their right senses would not think that you committed that fraud. there was no need for you to have done so. Your detractors will now grieve. I do hope that you will continue to share your knowledge with the law students of the University of Guyana and that this appointment will not cause you to forgo your assistance.

Only in a sleeping administration can this be tolerated. I am wondering how someone of this moral character be appointed to one of the highest office.

She was not appointed more like temporary hired.
