DEAR EDITOR,
So sad to read that a prisoner died while on remand at the central prison, because “the prison has no authority to take a prisoner to the hospital for treatment at midnight in a ride that would literally take five minutes”.
A bit puzzling: why is there not a full or part-time medical doctor on site, or at least a few medics ‘off-site’ on call at night for emergencies? That seems to be the civilised way to go. Let us hope this chap’s death will not be completely forgotten and lessons have been learnt. Geralda Dennison
