Despite the weather last Sunday the “Guyana Cup” International Softball finals

played at the Everest Cricket Ground, attracted a huge crowd whom were thoroughly treated with some good softball matches and other good entertainment.
This softball tournament which was organized and managed by the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association was played last weekend; Friday, Saturday and Sunday at various venues in Georgetown.
The tournament had sixteen softball teams (a total of 30 matches), eight foreign teams (3 from New York, 3 from Florida, 2 from Canada) and eight local teams.
This softball tourney was divided into two categories. The Guyana Cup Open 20/20 (male of any age), The Guyana Master Cup 20/20 (male 40 years and older) and each had eight teams. Cotton Field Wild Oats of Essequibo defeated Regal XI by 7 wickets in the final and take away $600,000 with the “Guyana Cup Open” trophy. Regal XI received $200,000 and trophy for their runner-up effort.

The tournament’s most valuable players, who also happened to be man of the match in both finals, were Patrick Rooplall of CFWO (Open Category) and Marlo Malone of Savage Masters (Over-40 Category).
The three 10/10 four female teams exhibition matches, saw Mike’s Wellwoman making the three required runs from the last ball to defeat Trophy Stall Angels.
The official sponsors for the tournament were Digicel, Steve’s Jewelry, Trophy Stall, Mike’s Pharmacy, Clear Waters, Busta Soft Drink, Survival, Bel Air Texaco and Ray’s Auto Sales.
Mike’s Wellwoman received $50,000 and Trophy, Trophy Stall Angels received $25,000 and Trophy.
Meanwhile, the Bakewell Softball Tournament continues this weekend, Quarterfinals play is next Sunday, and finals is set for Sunday November 27.
