Vijay Sankar of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, continued his fine form and dominance of Pools locally when he carted off the top prize in the inaugural Pools competition hosted by Centre Point Bar at Beezie, Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
Sankar’s win follows closely on the heels of his triumph at the Carib Beer / Buddy’s Pool Hall competition two Sundays ago. He wowed the spectators from the very first round, with his crisp and precise shots.
From the inception, he looked a cut above the rest and it came as no surprise when he eventually lifted the first place trophy, compliments of Ansa McAl’s Carib Beer. Sankar got the better of his West Coast Demerara counterpart, Mahendra Sham Persaud, in the final of the competition, which attracted 28 players.

Organiser Jacob Persaud (2nd left) presents the winner’s trophy to Vijay Sankar, while runner-up Mahendra Sham Persaud (right) and 3rd place finisher Parma Saroop display their prizes.
Persaud received the runner-up trophy, compliments of the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market and the City Mall. Parma Saroop of Enmore salvaged some pride for the East Coast lads by taking the third spot.
Organiser of the competition, Jacob Persaud, said that while he was expecting a larger turnout, he was generally satisfied with the quality of play displayed by the players. He added that another competition will be held shortly.
Meanwhile, the action will continue at the Centre Point Bar on Sunday with a winner-take-all dominoes competition. Double six time is 13:00hrs.
