Greene omitted from IGG athletics team
Following a meeting Wednesday night, the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) has omitted Clarence Greene from the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) athletics team in a move that was geared at formalising the team that will tour Suriname next month.
Kaieteur Sport was privy to both the male and female teams; however the male team had an extra athlete, which exceeded the number that is allowed at the tri-nation event. According to the IGG rules, 26 athletes that comprise 13 female and 13 males, are required.
Clarence Greene
As this newspaper had reported before, the AAG had to make a decision between Shaquille Scott and Greene. Scott got the nod ahead of Greene when the association met Wednesday night owed to the fact that he had won the Discus throw at the IGG trials.
Additionally, an official who was part of the meeting indicated yesterday that thrower, Lawanda Whaul has indicated her unavailability for the team. The official said that a replacement has been identified for Whaul as the team moves into preparation.
Mark Scott, who was originally named as Manager of the team, is also unavailable for IGG next month. Pamela Phillips has replaced him while Wendy Doris was identified as Chaperon. Julian Edmonds and Robert Chisholm will perform coaching duties.
