Sep 23, 2011 Letters
Dear Editor,
I am an Ole Timer whose job entails making frequent visits to the commercial banks in the city. That makes me a Valued Customer of Republic Bank. It was with almost deadly patience I waited in vain for a response from the Big Ones of RBL to the letter which appeared in the newspaper last Wednesday September 14, 2011.
Being a little ole gal I do have a lot of young friends within that institution and decided to ask a few of them some questions.
Mr. Editor, what I learned caused me to view this place from a whole new perspective, these are some of the things I was told:
It is the belief of many that management is deliberately playing a wait and see game, to see how staff will react to the letter published.
In the early 90s a group of persons were dismissed for trying to become members of a union, and management has their ground soldiers reminding others of this incident to this day.
The current Big Boss is 56 years young, far from retirement, as such he is doing everything in his power to please his bosses in TT in order to secure higher post within RBL, even if it means trampling on his fellow Guyanese.
Trinidad, whose economy is flying, RBL staff there is granted an allowance called COLA which is a kind of ‘hard living’ allowance. Guyanese who are living in hard times are denied any such thing.
Even high salaried managers are whispering in the ears of junior staff about joining union.
The youngster involved in the accident mentioned in the letter is denied time off to attend court, that is he is not paid by the bank when he goes to court.
Sister Kris who shouts to the high Heavens is one of the major players denying her junior staff of their rights. Shame on you sister.
In times gone by incentive were added on to the salaries of those who earned it. Now they are being paid that incentive in a one-time payment, depriving them of benefits.
This is all the ole girl can remember at this time. I would like to remind the staff of RBL that only unity amongst them can save them from these wicked masters.
Valued Customer
