Five gunmen posing as meter readers yesterday carted off more than $2M in a daylight robbery that has left three women in a state of shock.
The incident occurred at about 10:15 hours at Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, during which Donette Atwell, 26, Pauline Peters, 49, and Roxanne Crawford, 22, were relieved of both local and foreign currency.
Investigations revealed that the men entered the premises under the pretext that they were there to read the electrical meter and held the three victims at gunpoint.
The perpetrators then tied them up with duct tape, ransacked the building, and took away US$10,000, G$80,000, a cell phone and a quantity of jewellery, before escaping in a motor vehicle.
The matter was reported to the police but so far no one has been arrested.
