A man was yesterday given 14 days to cool off after he maliciously wounded his reputed wife.
Mithun Viswahnauth of Fourth Street, Alberttown, wounded Radika Dwarka with whom he shared their home with on September 6, last.
The court heard that on the date of the incident the victim had returned from shopping when Vishwahnauth asked her to justify spending so much time on the road.
When the victim did not give a favourable response, the man struck her causing lacerations to the mouth and swelling of the jaw.
When given a chance to speak, Vishwahnauth apologized to the court for the offence and promised that he would never do it again. He said that he has four children whom he takes care of and would be at a loss if he was detained.
The Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, said that a strong message must be sent to perpetrators of such offences and thus the man was given 14 days’ imprisonment for the charge.
