A 17-year-old housewife from Ruby, East Bank Essequibo, has not been seen since Friday and her relatives are appealing for the public’s help in finding her.
Missing is Malini Devi, who most know as Anjanie.
Originally from Anna Regina on the Essequibo Coast, Anjanie moved to Ruby when she entered into a common-law relationship one year ago, her mother, Deomattie Persaud, told Kaieteur News.
According to the mother, Anjanie’s husband works in the interior. He returned to Ruby on Sunday to discover that his wife was missing.
Mrs Persaud said that Anjanie paid her a visit last Tuesday and stayed until Friday, leaving with a speedboat from Supenaam to Parika.
When she called at around 12:00 h Friday, Mrs Persaud said Anjanie reported that she had reached home.
Two hours later, Devi visited her sister’s place at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo. The sister, Savitri Persaud, said Anjanie spent a short time by her and then said she was heading home.
According to Mrs Persaud, she called Anjanie again about 16:00 h, and they spoke for a little after which Devi said she would return the call.
The mother said she got worried when some time passed and no call came through so she decided to call again. However, from that point on, she has been unable to make contact with her daughter.
Mrs Persaud said she then called another of her daughters, Savitri, from Zeelugt, to go to the house at Ruby and make sure everything was alright. Mrs Persaud said the son-in-law went to the house and there was no response to his call. The son-in-law then reported the matter to Parika Police.
Mrs Persaud is appealing for the public’s help in finding her daughter. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Malini Devi, known as Anjani, is asked to call 645-9123 or 692-0421 or contact the nearest Police station.
