A Toyota Carina motor car belonging to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) was extensively damaged after a rotting lamp post, next to which it was parked, crashed on its roof causing considerable damages.
When Kaieteur News visited the scene several workmen attached to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) were in the process of removing several stout cables from the pole which lay atop the car roof, PHH 4774.
They ignored queries by this newspaper of what had transpired while directing such queries to the GRA staff. That group also refused to speak with the media.
However, closer examination revealed that the post had rotted from the base, mere inches from the ground. It is unclear to what extent operations at the GRA were affected.
