Fire damages Chinese restaurant

Fire early Sunday morning badly damaged a two-flat wooden building at Hampshire Corentyne Berbice which housed the Double Wing Chinese restaurant upstairs and another business place that sells chicken feed, leaving several persons out of work and others homeless.

Reports are that the Chinese national and his wife lived in the top flat which housed the restaurant. Most of the upper flat has been destroyed. Information received is that the house is owned by an overseas based Guyanese.
According to information the fire started around 07:30hrs in the Double Wing Chinese restaurant and quickly engulfed the rest of the building in which both occupants lived.
No one was injured and it was reported that six persons occupied the building.
