Essequibo’s Young Warriors scraped past the highly favoured Brushie’s XI by two runs in the Super over after their Round of Sixteen encounter in a tie yesterday as play in the Kares Engineering / Bushy Park Sawmills Tapeball Cricket Competition continued yesterday,

Also in winners’ row in a rain-affected day that saw three matches postponed until today were Essequibo’s Cotton Field Wild Oats who defeated Progressive Youth and Dyna’s Bravados, a winner over Rising Star XI.

In the most entertaining game of the day, Young Warriors took first strike and closed on 75-6 off the allotted overs with Satnarine Jattan hitting 24, while Simon Narine supported with 20.
In their turn at the crease, Brushie XI through panic and obvious insipidness could only managed to level the scores at 75-8 after needing one run off the last three balls in the stipulated overs, but instead suffered three run outs sending the game into the Super over which they lost.
In the Super over Young Warriors posted 13-1 and then restricted Brushie’s XI to 11-1 to claim victory by two runs.
In the other games, Rising Stars were routed for a paltry 42 in 9.5 overs through a magnificent spell of bowling from pacer Mervyn Vyphuis, who captured 3-1 off 1.5 overs.
He received good support from Seon Sertima, who bagged 2-4 off 2 overs.
In their reply, Dyna’s Bravados knocked off the required runs, ending on 45-5 in 6.1 overs.
Progressive Youth then went down to Cotton Field Wild Oats by five wickets.
Progressive Youth made 80-9 batting first with Seenauth Bissessar striking a top-score of 27, while Ricky Persaud made 15.

Rovindra Parsram grabbed 2-5 from 2 overs, while Travis Hyman and Fazir Khan, also claimed took two wickets apiece.
In their turn at the crease, Cotton Field Wild Oats through some big hitting by Shiv Madholall 20 and Parsram 20 eased to the required target, finishing on 85-5 in 9.1 overs.
Anthony Carter picked up 2-10 from 2 overs.
Meanwhile, the Organisers have decided that the rain-affected games will be played today, at the GCC ground, Bourda.
All the winners of yesterday’s matches have now moved into the quarter-finals.
