Guyana could host a continental TT Championship
-Christophe is first inductee of CRTTF Hall of Fame

Following what regional stakeholders hailed as an emphatic success in Guyana hosting the 2011 Caribbean and Regional Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Senior Championships, Guyana was offered an opportunity to host a mega continental tournament.
President of the CRTTF, Juan Vila offered Guyana the chance to host the event that is still to be identified in 2013. However, he said that the country will need a much larger venue to host about 16 competition tables at one time.

The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall does not have the capacity, but Vila was willing to offer Guyana the historic opportunity after handing the country a gold medal for the high standards set at what was the 53rd CRTTF Championships in Guyana last week.
Vila said that he saw a level of order and organisation that he had not seen in other countries. He informed that because of that Guyana has the potential to host even bigger tournaments. Vila was speaking at the Closing and Award Ceremony Friday night.
The Dominica Republican believes that Guyana has raised the bar in terms of planning events for table tennis that are of regional proportion. President of the GTTA, Henry Greene lobbied for the support of Government to be able to host a continental championship.
“We could get a Latin American, Central American and Caribbean Championships here but it’s a situation where we need a venue to hold more tables. The proposed ‘home for table tennis’ at the Racquet Centre will still be too small. So I am hoping that we will be able to sit with the ministry and find a suitable plot of land to have a bigger centre,” Greene said.

The GTTA was expected to have a portion of the Racquet Centre on Woolford Avenue allocated to building a table tennis-specific venue. Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony said that he is willing to work with the GTTA to find that suitable plot of land so that the venue can be erected as soon as possible.
