Dear Editor,
This has been the longest and most frustrating sixteen months of my life and I see no immediate end. I did what had to be done legally and I am now wondering if I have done something wrong by doing everything legally.
Should I pay a bribe or ‘pass something’ as it is called? Visiting and calling the Ministry of Housing branch at New Amsterdam has become a way of life for me over the said period.
I have become like a broken record to the staff there, asking the same question week after week. What more should I do Mr. Minister?
I paid for a plot of land at the cost of $300,000.00 in three installments. I have been filling the said land since then with the little cash left. I built my fence and bridge and have had my plan approved by the Mayor and Town Council since last year. I have approached a bank for financing to construct my home and we have agreed “in principle,” subject to receipt of the Title Document. The bank needs this Title Document in order to complete the processing of the Mortgage in order for me to access the funds.
It has been four months now since I was told that the title is at the New Amsterdam court by one of the staffers of the Housing Ministry in New Amsterdam.
I sat there while the staffer made that call to the court to find out if the Title is there. From the information gathered, all it needed was a seal at first, and then it was a signature. Today I am clueless, what more is needed?
Kindly ask to see one of the agreement of sale forms if you are not aware, clause number 11.4 states “such building shall be erected on the said lot within six (6) months of the date of allocation.” Tell me which average young person can do this on his own with the salaries that are being paid today.
Rushing to assist fire victims and acting as though you care for the ordinary citizens, and getting people to fill out application forms will serve no purpose if they all have to go through this horror. Young people will keep leaving these shores because they are fed up and do not see a future here.
What is more disgusting is that when you turn your television on, all you see is GINA, President’s Diary and so on showing like everything is good and as it should be. Thankfully the remote lets me block out those channels. I made it a rule in my rented home that I am not paying a G.P.L bill to watch N.C.N, period.
I tried figuring out the reason for the title taking this long, is it because my last name is Campbell? Don’t get me wrong, I attended an interview five years ago and the interviewer said to me “I thought you were black.” I did not get the job.
I was over qualified. I now know why my grandfather, Paul Campbell had printed boldly in red the following on the flooring beam of his house: PPP, PNC, WPA, TUF. I will now have to add AFC.
James Campbell
