Will play preseason friendlies in Caribbean next February
FC New York has recently announced that the club has been invited by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) to tour Guyana in February of 2012 as part of their preseason preparation for the 2012 season.
Garth Nelson, on behalf of the Guyana Football Federation and President Colin Klass, wrote that the GFF “would like to invite FC New York to participate in a three game tour of Guyana. The venture will be a positive boost to Guyana’s football.”
“We have the largest population of Guyanese people outside Guyana and they have shown support for our team in our inaugural season,” New York’s President Doug Petersen said. “With this trip I hope we can gain even more positive exposure as FC New York continues to grow globally.”
FC New York will play three matches on the tour, opening with a contest against 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League qualifiers Alpha United on February 6. The side will also face Milerock FC, the 2010 Guyana Super League runner-up and Caribbean Football Union Club Championship qualifier and the Guyana Under-23 Men’s team.
FC New will also make a stop in Trinidad and Tobago to face 2010-11 TT Pro League runner-up Caledonia AIA.
The last professional team to visit Guyana was current English Championship side Hull City in 1974.
