It was a case of another day, different venue, but same results as Guyana’s most dominant volleyball club Young Achievers continued its rule over local opposition when the first round of the fours format of this year’s Tradewind Tankers ‘True Champions’ Tournament concluded yesterday, at the Goed Fortuin Community Centre, West Demerara.
The hosts won all five of their encounters to end the day in a strong position of having the best chance to grab another $20,000 for being the winners of the format.
Played on a round robin basis, the ever improving GuySuCo Training Centre (GTC) finished runners-up after posting four wins with their only loss coming at the hands of the champions, while Port Mourant Jaguars 1 closed on three wins and two defeats.
The disappointment of the day was the lacklustre performance of one of the country’s premier clubs, Castrol Strikers, who suffered three losses to go with two victories.
Port Mourant Jaguars completed their day with a solitary win, while the up and coming Lusignan failed to register a victory.
In the day’s full results:
Young Achievers beat Castrol Strikers 30-17; GTC defeated Lusignan 30-16; Jaguars 1 beat Jaguars 2 30-9; Castrol Strikers cruised past Lusignan 30-14; Young Achievers scraped past Jaguars 1 30-23; GTC beat Jaguars 2 30-17; Castrol Strikers went down to Jaguars 1 27-30; Young Achievers beat Jaguars 2 30-16; GTC
