Alpha United (AU) Football Club yesterday thanked Caribbean Airlines (CA) for making their CONCACAF Champions League participation possible.
President of AU Football Club, Odinga Lumumba, told the media briefly at Georgetown Football Club (GFC) that without the Caribbean Airlines gesture their participation at the event would not have been possible.
“It costs a lot to travel to Costa Rica. It was as much as US$1,800 per player on a round trip from Guyana to Costa Rica, but Caribbean Airlines heard of our plight and decided to assist,” Lumumba said.
The team is expected to leave tomorrow for their first game of the CONCACAF League. They will play Costa Rica’s Club Sport Herediano on Tuesday.
The return leg is set for August 4 at the Guyana National Stadium. Alpha qualified for the prestigious CONCACAF event after placing third in the 2011 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championships.
