Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS) enacted sweet revenge on nemesis Berbice High School (BHS) to take top spot and win the annual Hilbert ‘Old Beef’ Humphrey Memorial Inter school football competition, which was played recently for school in New Amsterdam.
In the competition which was played at the All Saints Scot Church Ground, six schools participated namely; Vryman’s Erven Secondary School (VESS), Tutorial Academy Secondary (TASS), School of The Nations (SOTN), Berbice High School (BHS), Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) and New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary (NAMS).
In the finals it was TASS time to rejoice with a 2-1 win over arch rivals BHS. Scoring for TASS were Shem Bovell and Shaun Hosannah, while Graham Thomas netted the consolation goal for BHS.
The win by TASS was sweet revenge for their recent loss to BHS just a few days ago in Sherlon Hetemyer and Shaun Nurse inaugural Inter Secondary School Independence Anniversary Football final.
In earlier games, BEI beat SOTN 3-1 with Shamar Richards 2 and Akeem Williams 1 scoring for BEI. For SOTN Eion Rodney scored.
In another game, VESS whipped NAMS 3-0 with Joshua Sinclair, Ray Hinds and Lloyd Freso being on target.
In semifinal play, TASS then edge past BEI 1-0 by a Campton goal. In the Second semifinal BHS got the better of VESS 2-0 with both goals coming off the boot of Xavier Fraser.
At the presentation ceremony, which followed immediately after the final, TASS were presentation with the winning trophy and 15 gold medals. Second Place BHS received 15 Silver medals. In the individual category Best Goalkeeper award went to Roy Lancaster of TASS. Best Defender was Trevon DeJonge of TASS, Best Midfielder Shaun Hosannah also of TASS, they all received trophies.
The most goal prize was shared between Shameer Richards of BEI and Xavier Fraser of BHS with two goals each and they received a Football Jersey, one football trunks and pair socks.
Shawn Edwards was singled out as a promising football player and he received one Football Jersey, one football trunks and pair socks. In all 21 goals were scored.
The tournament was organized by The Hearts of Oak Master football Club and coordinated by former national player Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey.
