Police on the East Coast of Demerara have arrested a man following the discovery of a 16-gauge double-barrel shotgun and six cartridges in his house at Hope Lowlands yesterday.
The discovery was made around 14:30 hours after police, acting on a tip-off, raided the house.
This newspaper understands that the man and his wife were engaged in an argument earlier in the day during which he threatened to kill her.
A police source said that the woman became afraid and confided in a friend that her husband had a gun in the house and she was fearful for her life.
The friend then alerted the police who immediately responded and recovered the weapon.
The man is no stranger to the police, having been shot during a confrontation with them sometime last year following a wedding house brawl.
