When play in the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) of Guyana Inter Jamaat 10 overs tape ball round-robin cricket competition sponsored by The Trophy Stall of Bourda Market continued on Sunday last at the MYO Ground, De Edward upset a star studded Enmore in a quarter final clash while LBI got past Grove in a close contest by 5 runs.
De Edward batting first against Enmore mustered 79 for 6 off their overs; Altaf Khan made 33 (2×6 2×4) and Aftar Gani 16 (1×6 2×4). Bowling for Enmore; Safraz Karim broke the back of the De Edward batting with 3 for 16 run, Amir Khan and Reaz Yacoob took 1 wicket apiece.
Enmore in reply boasting a powerful batting line-up were ahead of the required run rate but lost wickets in every over and were eventually sent packing for 53 in 8.3 overs; Christopher Surat hitting 13 (2×6) and Stephen Joseph 12 (1×6 1×4).
The real blow was struck in the 6th over when Gani took a hat-trick with the last three balls of the over; Enmore slumping to 50 for 8 and never recovered. Gani ended with figures of 4 for 8, Reaz Imam and Raymond Singh backed up with 2 wickets each. The other quarter final match is set for this Sunday from 09:00hrs between Queenstown and LBI A. In a preliminary round encounter, LBI A romped to an exciting 5 run win over Grove. LBI took to the crease first and rattled up 106 for 5 off their 10 overs. Akram Ali stroked 37 (5×6) and M. Khan with 20 (2×6).
Ahmad Nizamudeen, Abdullah Nizamudeen, Shafeek Ishmail, Imtiaz Pooran and Naved Ali picked up one wicket each for Grove which fell 5 runs short of the target, ending on 101 for 6 when their overs ran out.
Azeem Azeez contributed 30 (3×6) and Abdullah Nizamudeen 22 (2×6 1×4). The leading bowler for LBI A was Shoaib Ali with 2 for 22.
Eight teams have made it through to the knockout stages; they are Queenstown which will face LBI ‘A’, Enmore against De Edward, Grove taking LBI ‘B’ and Farm up against MYO on Sunday June 12.
