Dear Editor,
I was stunned upon hearing the Minister of Tourism, Manniram Prashad, state that visitors to our country can now obtain a Guyanese driver’s permit after tendering their licence from their country of origin, and that this would be unique in the Caribbean.
It was particularly flabbergasting to hear this pronounced with such gusto. Even without the gusto, this came to us from a minister of the government.
Surely, intensive research should be done before our representatives make such articulations purporting to be factual. Barbados had this system in place decades ago and I think there are other territories in the Caribbean with the same policy.
It seems that our government has recently been claiming that Guyana is the first in many areas of accomplishment in the Caribbean and even the first in the world. Conrad Barrow
