Dear Editor,
I pen this letter in response to two front page articles published in the Friday, May 13 and Sunday, May 15, 2011 editions of the Kaieteur and Stabroek Newspapers, respectively. These articles read that the drivers of a Police Land Rover and a route 47 minibus swerved from hitting two dogs and ended up smashing through a gate and two houses.
As I read these articles, my memory struck me and took me back several years to when I was a student in Massachusetts, USA. A friend advised me that I should never swerve from an animal when driving.
Although it may sound cruel, the truth is you could ultimately cause severe harm to yourself or other humans, or even property, as was the case in these accidents. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
I think all drivers should subscribe to this and avoid any loss of life or serious injury. Further, greater efforts should be made to rid the streets of all stray animals.
