GFF First Annual Ordinary Congress set for May 27
Klass, only nominee for President; Major, King, Hutson & O’Jeer to contest other positions
When the First Annual Ordinary Congress of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) comes off next Friday, no doubt, the elections for the three available positions (President, Vice President, Executive Member) will be the high point.
The incumbent Colin Klass is the only nominee for the position of President with Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports Alfred King, who is also President of the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC), one of three persons nominated for the Vice President position.
The other two nominees are Upper Demerara Football Association President Dr. Joseph Haynes and President of the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA) Aubrey Hutson.
Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major and Berbice Football Association (BFA) President Keith O’Jeer will be contesting for the post of Executive Member. Major served as Organising Secretary before a new constitution was adopted and passed by the General Council of the GFF.
The First Annual Ordinary Congress was originally scheduled for last month but had to be pushed back since there was a flaw in terms of giving the stipulated amount of notice to the Associations based on the constitutional requirement.
GFF President Colin Klass and Executive did accept the flaw and subsequently made the adjustment by giving the required amount of notice. The Georgetown Football Association (GFA) as well as the GFRC led the call for the recall of the previous notice.
Klass, received nominations from the UDFA, National Association for Women’s Football, Bartica Football association, East Bank Football Association and the West Demerara Football Association. The nominations were duly seconded.
For the post of VP, Dr. Haynes received the nod from West Demerara and Upper Demerara; King from the Berbice FA and Hutson from the Bartica FA.
Major is the overwhelming favourite to take the position of Executive Member in the two-way battle with Keith O’Jeer. Major received nominations from the East Bank FA, Upper Demerara FA, West Demerara FA and the National Association of Women’s Football, while O’Jeer got his from the Berbice FA.
Meanwhile, an official of the GFF when asked by Kaieteur Sport about the position with the nomination of Alpha United Football Club President, Odinga Lumumba, stated that the nomination for him submitted by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) was done without being seconded which made it null and void.
