William Jacobs appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face the charge of murder.
It is alleged that Jacobs, an interior labourer, murdered Jerry Primo last Saturday (May 7) at Turtle Creek Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River.
The defendant who resides at Wismar Housing Scheme was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Police Prosecutor Inspector Steven Telford, in presenting the facts of the case, stated that on the day in question, the deceased and the defendant had a misunderstanding, during which the time Jacobs armed himself with a cutlass and began attacking Primo, who received severe lacerations as a result. The victim was subsequently taken to the Bartica Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Jacobs was remanded to prison and will make his next appearance on May 19. The matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
