Dear Editor,
After much deliberation I am writing this letter to inform the Ministry of Education and the general public of the suffering of my child and others by a Grade Six teacher at the Cornelia Ida Primary School.
Last July she made lots of promises to us when she took our kids.
Things were going well until she became abusive towards our kids calling them dunce and telling them her previous class was better. If we make complaints it only becomes worse for our kids. Then she demanded $1000 for school news test papers to use as month end and term end test. Those children who could not afford to pay were put out of the class.
For the Christmas party our kids were left alone because she did not come to school that day she told them she would teach them a lesson. Because of the teacher’s attitude the children were constantly fighting among themselves and were often sent to the head to be disciplined.
Those children who could pay her large sums of money and give her lots of gifts were treated better.
As it boiled down to exams it became worse. This teacher tried to confuse us by spreading rumours that the Exams Division gave the children wrong candidate numbers. The Saturday before exams she only worked with a few selected children at her home. Her words were “I ain’t want all dem dunce man.” After this incident my child felt very discouraged. Throughout the school year my child was in constant fear of her.
This teacher only wants to work with very bright children and those who can afford to give her lots of money. On Monday before the Common Entrance exams (National Grade Six Assessment) she was seen talking to the invigilator and giving her money.
On both days of the exams she was at the school fence during the break when the ‘paper 1’ was finished, talking to the children of her class before they did the ‘paper 2’.
My question is did she pay the invigilator to take special care of these kids?
Why didn’t the invigilators stop her when she was at the fence? I think both the invigilators and the teachers need to be disciplined.
The invigilators should be switched around and the teacher should be removed from the Grade Six. I do not want another child to suffer the way my child did. Should you investigate this teacher you would realise that this teacher is not only abusive to children and parents but to other teachers as well.
Can the Ministry, please, look into this matter urgently before other children have to suffer?
I am now writing this letter because my child has finished writing the exams and there is no need to sit in her class and be afraid anymore.
