A hit and run accident left a vagrant lying dead on the Eccles Public Road, East Bank Demerara, yesterday.
Reports are that around 11:00 hours a speeding car heading in the northern direction on the East Bank Public Road, hit the man who reportedly ‘dashed across the road’ and ended up losing his life. The impact hurled him some distance.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the car did not even stop to render any assistance after hitting down the man who was clad in dark green pants and was bare- chested.
Kaieteur News understands that after a speedy intervention into the matter by police ranks, they were able to track the dark blue ‘AT-192’ with license plate HB 5155.
The driver was identified as Fidel Waddell of Georgetown, a taxi driver. He is currently in custody at the Providence Police Station.
Some police ranks stated that the unidentified man was usually seen around the “M&M Snackette” by the Demerara Harbour Bridge with a stick in his hand.
His alias was ‘Dennis’ though no one knows his origin or his correct name. They are hoping that relatives can come forward and identify him.
