Bandits beat elderly woman with shotgun during midday robbery
She could have been their mother or grandmother but armed bandits paid no heed to that as they beat and robbed a 72-year old business woman during a brutal robbery at Triumph, East Coast Demerara around midday yesterday.
Bibi Ali of Market Street Triumph had to seek medical attention at the Georgetown Hospital for injuries she sustained as a result of a beating with a shotgun.
However, police have indicated that they have arrested two city residents in connection with the attack.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that Ali was in the bottom flat of her two storey house when three bandits, one of whom was carrying a shotgun entered through an open door.
They held the elderly woman at gunpoint and demanded cash and other valuables.
A source who is investigating the matter told this newspaper that, Ali tried to run away but was dealt a lash to her face by the bandit who was carrying the shotgun.
She collapsed to the ground and the bandits proceeded to duct tape her mouth and then tied her hand to a chair.
The men proceeded to the upper flat where they ransacked a bedroom and unearthed $84,000 before making good their escape.
Fifteen minutes later Ali managed to free herself and raise an alarm to which neighbours responded.
The elderly woman was taken to the hospital where she was treated and sent away.
Based on the description given of the suspects, two unemployed men from Georgetown were arrested.
