Dear Editor,
After reading and hearing about the Kaieteur News’ story about 75-year-old pensioner, Shairoon Alli, every Guyanese with a heart must have shed some tears.
For Shairoon to be put in such a situation where she felt that committing suicide was better is a crying shame on this PPP Government.
Every society, other than Guyana, treats the elderly with respect.
President Jagdeo, his administration and all the other PPP leaders have shown how disrespectfully they are to the elderly. Instead of helping the elderly to live in dignity and being able to buy food, clothing and pay their utility bills, President Jagdeo goes around the country insulting the elderly.
Thanks to Kaieteur News we learnt of Shairoon’s sad ending. There are many more like Shairoon facing the same situation.
My sympathy goes out to her family and friends. My condemnation goes out to President Jagdeo and the PPP for making it very difficult for Shairoon, causing her to feel the only way out of her punishment was to end her life by committing suicide. A very sad state of affair
