Dear Editor,
Congrats to Donald Ramotar although he is not the most suitable candidate in the PPP. Moses Nagamotoo or Ralph Ramkarran would have made a far superior candidates but this is a clear reflection the PPP is a political party that specializes in mediocrity. First it was an experiment that went totally wrong with Jagdeo and now, heaven help Ramotar.
The PPP press release claimed that “Ramkarran withdrew and recommitted himself to working for another victory of the PPP”. This action by Ramkarran demonstrates a man who does not have the courage of conviction and bravery to stand up for what he believes in. He is a descendant of a stalwart of justice and fair play, the legendary Boysie Ramkarran but I am absolutely convinced Boysie is crying wherever his soul resides since all we have seen from his descendant in that Central Committee meeting was the highest acts of cowardice and characteristic impotence. Why could Ralph not stand up and do his duty to democracy? It did not matter if the vote was 34-1 against him, he would have been walking out that room as a man of valour.
What happened in that room in Freedom House on April 4, 2011 was an injustice to the Guyanese people. A democratic centrist party imposed in dictatorial fashion on the people, a candidate and the only chance to ensure that democracy prevailed was thwarted because of this act of weakness by Ralph.
Ralph, you could have made a difference to this mess that the Jagdeo boys got this country into and now you just went and surrendered to more of Jagdeo with Donald now the candidate. Donald is a creature of Jagdeo.
This nation suffered enough of Jagdeoism and you have basically increased the chances of the people being exposed to more of this Jagdeoism. We all thought you would have represented us but you sold us out.
Ralph you had an obligation and you should have known there was no greater honour in fighting this injustice called Jagdeoism. Jagdeoism is immoral, unjust and oppressive. You should not have hesitated to fight the good fight, Ralph, even if they threatened your family.
Very few people get the opportunity you had, to clean up injustice and you just threw it all away. Because you failed to wage this righteous battle, your name will forever be castigated in disrepute, tantamount to a “darpok”.
Ralph can never raise his head as leader of the people in the future. He did not have the courage of conviction to stay the path. How can he be counted ever in the future to stay the path with the people?
Shame on you Ralph, I expected better from you. Just like how my brother shouted “Bara Ya Gaban” in Eygpt to chase the cowards out from office, they will shout for you and the PPP one day soon.
Doodnauth Ramkarran
