When the historic ‘Guinness Greatest of the Streets’ football train made another stop in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden on Friday and Saturday evening last the action was electrifying as teams continued their quest for top honors in opening round matches.
Playing at the Silver City Hard Court (Wisroc) there were wins for Cherokee Park, Poker Burg, Attackers, South Stars, Retrieve Unknowns, Team 25, Coomacka, Goal Getters, Silver Bullets, Eagles and Amelia’s Ward Russians.
Cherokee Park humbled Bad Boys 2-0; Fabian Jessop netting the brace in the 17th and 20th minute.
Poker Burg needled Victory Valley Warriors compliments of B. Jonas’ 5th minute strike.
Attackers were relentless in trampling Trainline Warriors 4-1. David Gray converted in the 2nd and 18th minute; Harion Harry opened proceedings in the 1st minute with the other goal coming off the boot of Harron Harry in the 4th minute. For Trainline Warriors Marley Major was on target in the 20th minute.
South Stars got the better of Rough and Rugged in a tense match-up by the odd goal in three. Jermaine Batson scored both goals for the winners, hitting the network in the 5th and 17th minute. Triemaine Pennue converted the consolation goal for Rough & Rugged in the 20th minute.
Retrieve Unknowns shielded their way to victory over Ripping Bullets 2-0. Darrel George opening the scoring in the 10th while Broadfeed Richards sealed the deal 4 minutes later.
And in an exciting tangle, Hi Stars on the back of a Hat-trick from Tony ‘Spirit’ Adams (4, 8, 12) were held to a draw by Star Boys who got their goals from Dexter Garraway (6, 9) and Jermaine McBean in the 18th.
Team 25 was guided to a comfortable 3-1 win over Sheriff Squad thanks to a brace from Kennard Sunon (15 &17) and Marcello Jansen’s single strike in the 5th minute. Sheriff Squad got their lone goal from Adrian Maynard in the 19th minute.
Coomacka quelled the challenge of Fire Storm 2-0; Ateba Edmondson netting both goals in the 8th and 13th minute.
Goal Getters were in a no nonsense mood in their 4-1 demolition of Half Mile/One Mile. Mare Chapman converted twice (15 & 16) with one each from Keon Bristol (4) and Sean Henry (13). Half Mile/One Mile consolation goal was netted by Charles Henry 16 minutes on.
Silver Bullets needled Street Vybes, John Waldron banging the nest on the 9th minute.
Eagles soared to a 5-3 win over Hard Knocks; Delon Charter hit the network three times (9, 10, 12), Deon Mc Allister (16) and Dexter Sealy (17). Hard Knocks who opened the scoring in the first minute through Linden Johnson could not maintain that advantage and the eagles began to fly. Wayne Milo (14, 20) scored the other two goals for Hard Knocks.
Amelia’s Ward Russians whipped Speight Land United 5-1; Travis Waterton (12 & 15) and Shawn Daniels found the back of the nets twice each (15 & 20), Jermaine Corlet opened proceeding two minutes into the clash. Speight Land United got their consolation goal from Jose Walden.
