Dear Editor,
Scientists have been saying that the ocean level is rising and this will cause flooding of low lying coastal area.
Recently, we have seen the devastating effect of the sea on Japan’s coast. Guyana lies below sea level. If we get tidal waves, our coastal region will be gone.
Knowing this possibility, I am surprised to read that people are building lavish homes next to the seawall. One would think that knowing the destruction of water, individuals would want to build their homes away from the sea and on higher ground. Disregarding scientists’ predictions imply that these individuals have money to waste.
If they had earned their money like the cane cutters and other tax paying Guyanese, they would not have chosen the present site for building.
This kind of undertaking is indicative of persons of poor intelligence. There is truth in the saying “Easy come, easy go.” Those who have not earned their money by working cannot appreciate the value of their money. Dr. Sherlock Rawana
