Pele FC 40th Anniversary celebrations to kick off Easter Sunday
The Great King Pele being honored by Carey Jacques Pele FC President during the formers visit to Guyana for the opening of the 2009/2010 K&S Opening at the Stadium.
Pele Football Club (Pele F.C) will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a week of activities commencing Easter Sunday, April 24 and will last until the 29th.
According to Club President Cecil Jacques, plans have been in the making ever since last year between the local Pele Executive Committee and the Pele FC Alumni of the USA. The Alumni USA is made up of a number of past Pele greats currently who are all expected to be back home for the auspicious celebrations.
Following is the complete programme of activities:
Day 1 – Sunday April 24 (Easter Sunday)
Family Funday at the GFC Ground Bourda – entrance is free and activities include
– Launch of the weeks programme with an opening ceremony to include remarks by the GFF, GFA and Minister of Sports.
– Take away lunch on sale, including Ital
– Creole snacks and drinks on sale
– Creole games – lime & spoon, sack race, needle & thread
– School packs to be given away by the Pele F.C Alumni to children attending
– Free ice cream give away to all children present compliments of Banks DIH
All Former Pele F.C players will be given 40th anniversary memorabilia.
Day 2 – Tuesday April 26 – Triple Header Football at GFC Ground
Re-introduction of the historic “Brazilian Cup” between Pele FC and Santos FC at (20:00hrs). The Brazilian Cup was started in the 1970s and continued thru the 80’s as a challenge between the clubs in Guyana which bears sentimental attachment to the Great King Pele. Pele FC was named after him and his home club in Brazil was Santos.
Other matches for this day – Pele U17 vs GFC U17; Brazilian Masters vs Pele FC Alumni USA.
Day 3: Wednesday April 27 – Soccer Training & Mini Camp at GFC Ground
– Pele FC Alumni will be conducting an Elementary Coaching Course for 15 coaches
– Over 60 children will participate in a youth soccer training camp
-Free small goals will be given to every club represented, compliments of Banks DIH
Day 4: Thursday April 28 – Double Header Football at GFC Ground
-Local Pele F.C Masters vs Pele F.C Alumni US for the Banks DIH Trophy
-Pele F.C vs Alpha United
Former Pele FC greats will be honoured during the intermissions
Day 5: Friday April 29 – Gala Award Ceremony, Dinner & Dance at the Umana Yana
-The greatest of the great players, supporters and administrators will be honoured for their contributions to Pele FC
– Unveiling of the Pele FC Hall of Fame
– Feature address by Hon. Minister of Sports Dr. Frank Anthony
