Jessica Stephenson, Guyana’s first representative at the CONSANAT Youth Championships 2011, Lime, Peru in eight (8) years began her quest to do her country and self proud yesterday morning when competition got underway.
The T&T based athlete, who has been doing this country proud at the regional and International levels, is competing in the Girls Juvenile ‘B’ Group – Girls 15-17 age Group.
Stephenson’s first event was the 100m Breaststoke, which she entered with a time of 1:15.63 made at the CAC Games – Medellin 2010.
The determined and courageous Stephenson was seeded in heat 1 of 3 and finished 2nd with a personal best time of 1:15.28. This seeds her 4th in the final which was slated for 19:00hrs last evening.
Stephenson, who will also compete in the 200m Breaststroke is the recipient, through the Guyana Olympic Association, of an International Olympic Committee scholarship for London 2012 preparation. Her Manager/Coach while in Peru is Mrs. Davina Stephenson.
