Dear Editor,
The letter by Sasenarine Singh of the AFC, mildly correcting Malcolm Harripaul’s hate letter on Jagan, even offering him a spot in the AFC, is indicative of the common ground both hold in trying to assassinate the character and good name of President Cheddi. It seems that the AFC takes in the Jagan haters anytime they apply for membership.
Mr. Editor, Singh has the nerve to write about Jagan as if he betrayed Guyana in some kind of connivance and race baiting techniques, while the AFC is pure and lily white; Jagan is the terrible dragon spouting anti-democratic values in his PPP while the AFC is the lost maiden in distress, when the presidential candidate and all officials in that party are all pre-ordained and hand-picked, with no involvement of the general public; Jagan is the cause of racial antagonisms, while the AFC is the magic cure for all enmity; Jagan is the terrible communist, while the AFC, led by committed communists (former?) who expressed great sympathy for communism when Jagan was alive – now singing a different song.
Jagan, after 55 years of honorable service to our nation, will fall from his “pedestal” while the leaders of the AFC with no service to really talk about, and questionable success in the future, should be placed first on Singh’s “pedestal”; this man even goes so far as to question the honesty and integrity of President Cheddi in some stone scam, while the AFC’s leadership is so clean and straight even though the scam of holding seats in Parliament, which belonged to the PPP and PNC, is never mentioned; nor the scam Morris poll publicised with great fanfare, which overstated by a huge margin, the strength of the AFC in the 2006 elections.
Mr. Editor, Singh is clearly a mixed up political novice who is getting carried away with his own fantasies. The AFC is following a path to sure oblivion in the political processes in Guyana and that this man is a representative of that party is indicative of the kind of people the AFC inducts to spread false propaganda
against President Cheddi, a true son of Guyana.
The AFC cannot see the obvious needs of the Guyanese people for unity and therefore is against a “big tent” approach, the only way to remove this government; contesting alone will be futile and will bring nothing much to them. As a matter of fact, with the elevation of Mr. Granger as the PNCR’s candidate, I doubt if the AFC will get two seats as many voters will “go home” to the revived PNCR.
President Cheddi was always for unity and tried many times to forge coalitions whereas the AFC is dead set against a “big tent”coalition – it seems as if the AFC wants this government in power for another five years.
Singh’s analysis of President Cheddi is so vicious, just like Harripaul’s, that his nonsense should be publicized by other parties seeking voters who, no matter what, like, respect and admire Jagan, showing the extent which the AFC would go to in disrespecting that great man. If there was an election tomorrow and Jagan was alive and contesting, Sasenarine Singh and his party, the AFC, would, as the saying goes, “lose their deposits” and drop out of sight quickly.
As a matter of fact, in death, Jagan would get more votes than the AFC if his name was placed on the ballot for the upcoming elections; so, Mr. Sasenarine Singh can place that piece of information in his clogged pipe and smoke it!
Cheddi (Joey) Jagan (Jr.)
