Josefa Tamayo’s ‘Tropical Impressions’ continues at the National Art Gallery

Artist Josefa Tamayo’s exhibition of sculptures, paintings and drawings, a collection entitled ‘Tropical Impressions’ continues until March 19 at the National Art Gallery.
The exhibition opened on February 15, and forms part of the national celebration of the country’s 41st Republic Anniversary.
“Inspired by the flora, fertile lands and animal life of Guyana, the artist also declares that she did not want to miss recording and celebrating everyday scenes and traditions– things many people take for granted,” the National Art Gallery notes.
Cuba –born but a naturalized Guyanese, Tamayo’s collection represents an appreciation of Guyanese life and society, where she has made a contribution for over 25 years as a tutor in Sculpture, Design and Drawing at the Burrowes School of Art, and influenced students and other artists with her technically accomplished and imaginative works.
The exhibition is open to the public.
