Alpha United and Milerock will clash in a practice match tomorrow at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden as both teams continue preparations for the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship.
While Alpha, Guyana’s top club side have drawn a bye to the second round of the competition, Milerock, in their first round clash will entertain Suriname’s Intermoengotapoe in their first game next Sunday (March 13) at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground from 19:30hrs, the return game is set for Suriname one week later on a date yet to be decided (March 18, 19 or 20).
The two teams will be aiming to carry each other to the hilt and will not be holding back as they would certainly love to see their level of preparedness for what is expected to be a testing CFU tournament.
While this is the first time Milerock will be taking part in this Regional tournament, this is the third year for Alpha.
Intermoengotapoe will arrive in Guyana on Friday ahead of the game and local fans are being urged to come out to support Milerock.
Alpha’s first game will be either April 12, 13 or 14 against the winner of the first round clash between RiverPlate FC of Puerto Rico and Bodden Town of Cayman Islands who will clash in their first game in the Cayman Islands on March 18.
Meanwhile, the technical staff of Alpha United in an effort to continue motivating their players who have been preparing ever since mid January, have decided that they will reward players who have been showing a high level of all-round discipline on and off the field.
The first player to be rewarded is midfielder Dwain Jacobs who according to the Technical staff is the Most Improved and Disciplined Player and has been showing excellent initiative.
Head Coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover disclosed that the Executive of the club is fully behind the idea and they are aiming to do this on a monthly basis.
“This we believe is a way of further motivating these players to perform to the best of their ability. It is not to cause any dissention among them but to encourage healthy competition and good team spirit. We are also looking at the ability of these players to contribute on a team level.”
