A man who is before the court for having sex with his daughter has been placed on $220,000 in a Berbice Magistrate’s Court by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo.
The man reappeared before her at the Reliance Magistrate court after a probation report was presented to the court.
The 40-year-old cane cutter of Cumberland, East Canje, is on two charges of committing incest on his 14-year-old daughter. The man was first refused bail when he had first appeared in court on January 12, charged with the indictable offence.
The case for the prosecution as presented by Sergeant Playter is that between January 1, and December 31, 2009 he had sex with the minor.
He is also accused of between January 1, 2010 and October 3, 2010 again had sexual intercourse with the minor.
The probation report have a dastardly description of the living condition of the man, his wife and seven children, the youngest being four.
The family lives in a one bedroom house with one bed and mattress. The man and his wife sleep on the floor while the children sleep on the bed. The magistrate after listening to the probation report granted bail on condition that he removes from the premises; that he must report to the Albion Police Station, Corentyne, every Monday at 14: 00h, and a record of his activities should be kept there; that he does not go within 300 yards of the virtual complainant’s home or the person of any of his seven children and that he should notify the Central Police station or the court of any change of address.
The report also stated that the virtual complainant was sent to the New Opportunity Corps (NOC), Essequibo on a charge of wandering. She was sentenced on December 28 last to two years. She had run away from home.
The next court date is March 16, .2010.
