Dear Editor,
I respond to the coward who withheld his/her name and address to the letter, captioned, “Can this ever happen anywhere else in the world?’’
The answer to your question is a resounding yes! And it does! At least in civilized societies!
This man used his authority and position as a teacher to seduce a young and impressionable girl. I don’t care if they had a “relationship”. It should have only been teacher/student. He knows better!
The culture by its tolerated music, videos, movies etc. has reduced women and girls to objects of ridicule and degradation. This attitude is then continuously fostered by people like the author of that letter when he minimizes repulsive behaviour that continues to denigrate the female gender and desecrate the value given to them by their Creator.
I am proud of the swift response of the police and hope that their actions send a strong message of what is acceptable and what is not. Everyday I read of the brutal beatings and murders of women in Guyana by the men in their lives and it is attitudes such as those of this individual that continue to devalue women and girls and cause a lowering of their self esteem and self worth. This then sets them up for a cycle of years of perpetual abuse.
“Name and address withheld” you should be ashamed of yourself!! Don’t hide behind a fake concern for the disruption of classes. Whatever was missed during the police presence could easily be made up. Can you say the same for what that young victim has lost, or do you just see her as one of the girls in the ‘videos’……just another piece of ‘meat’?
She is somebody’s child, God’s creation – created with a purpose greater than fulfilling someone’s sexual impulses, and worthy of being defended, protected, and guided into the truth of who she was created to be.
When do you plan to “chastise” the teacher? Or is your attitude to his crime – “what’s the big deal?”
You said that the police don’t even treat “notorious drug lords and criminals this way”. That teacher is a criminal in my books and has done as much damage as a drug lord by luring a child into destructive behaviours that, but for the grace of God, can have results that could last a lifetime.
