Dear Editor,
I congratulate Kaieteur News and your columnist, Freddie Kissoon for being fearless in enlightening the Guyanese Diaspora about wrongs that are being done in beloved Guyana.
I am surprised that our Guyanese intellectuals at home and abroad are on the sidelines watching. It is time these people wake up and take up the fight for the betterment of Guyana. I am sure our Great leader, Dr. Cheddi Jagan would approve of such dedication, if he was alive today.
He would have castigated his pupils for what they are doing to his people. Dr Jagan was not materialistic. If he was, then during the years that he was suppressed, he could have given up and practice his dentistry. This shows that he was an individual who was concerned about the welfare of his people.
With above in mind, I would like to explain why I choose UGP. In the 60s, Dr Jagan saw the need for having a Tertiary Institution to educate our people who could not go abroad to further their studies. The name of the institution was University of Guyana (UG). At this institution, Guyanese intellectuals of all races were able to start their journey to higher achievements. These beneficiaries and Guyanese abroad need to come forward and share their knowledge and skills for the betterment of the Guyanese people.
Showing such unselfishness, you would be the ones that Dr Jagan had relied on to make Guyana, a country where our people can live in harmony and prosperity. So, brothers and sisters forget your past affiliation, form the United Guyana Party. Your inclusion would demonstrate that you are committed in ensuring all Guyanese will never again have to live in fear. In closing, I will use the phrase “United we stand, divided we fall.
